The Lang Sustainability Conference is an intensive 3 day conference hosted by the Lang Students' Association at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics from November 7th to November 10th. It's designed to bring together 125+ of Canada's brightest students to engage in workshops, discussion and competition to explore business solutions to the current social, environmental and economic challenges facing our world. Each day of the conference will be themed after a different element of the triple bottom line:

Brien Convery is an accomplished, results-driven executive professional with 29 years of diversified and progressive experience spanning a wide range of industries and disciplines both in the private and public sectors across the globe.
As Director, Early Talent Acquisition, Attraction and Engagement, at RBC, Brien leads the Canada campus recruitment teams to attract, engage, recruit and mentor the “right” student talent at one the world’s leading financial institutions.
As a champion for diversity and inclusion, Brien holds the title of Vice-Chair Recruitment and Mentorship for the RBC PRIDE Employee Resource Group focusing on the LGBTQ+ employees and community at-large.
Brien is an Employer Representative Board Member for the Co-operative Education and Work Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL) and is a recent Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) 2019 Award Winner for Outstanding Achievement in the field of career planning and recruitment. Jim Estill is the CEO and President of Danby & ShipperBee. A life-long entrepreneur, Jim has grown a technology distribution business from the trunk of his car to more than $350 million in sales. He is an investor, advisor, and board member to many technology businesses, including Blackberry, where he served as a founding director for 13 years.
Jim’s dedication to a better world is reflected in his businesses and in his work in his community. ShipperBee currently saves 70% of carbon per parcel shipped and he has personally sponsored 50 Syrian refugee families.
Assistant Professor | Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics
A visionary leader and charismatic team player, Ruben has been involved in the business development and executive management of multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary organizations across the world. He recently completed his Ph.D. in Management with a focus on Organizational Leadership from the University of Guelph in 2017.
His research streams as an Assistant Professor are in the fields of Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Entrepreneurship, in the field of Accountability and in the field of Management Control Systems as applied to project management.
As a volunteer, Ruben actively engages in social issues. He has lead youth church groups, volunteered with NGO's in Brazil and participated on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Lung Association. Ruben is actively working in the Experience Committee of Professional Engineers Ontario and is the President of Clarkson Toastmasters Club.

Dan joined Loblaw in 2006 as a Produce Category Manager in Produce Procurement. Since then, he has managed the P&L across a number of categories as a Merchandiser.
Having been with Loblaw Brands for the last 8 years, he is responsible for all of our Private Label programs across Produce, Floral and Garden and consulting on strategic initiatives and brand strategy across our business.

Chris is a born management consultant. He has engaged personally with his clients for over 30 years, with a first career in fisheries biology (MSc UBC-1981), then a gold-medal MBA (Ivey-1987) followed by immersion in major industry transformations with global clients in photography, insurance, financial services, electronics manufacturing, consumer marketing, food, and internet businesses.
Chris has coached and walked alongside business leaders and with them has built more effective management teams, articulated strategy, facilitated change, designed organizations and helped redefine how leaders run their businesses, all to achieve performance and adapt to massive disruption. Chris is the “outsider” who knows his clients well enough to have challenging insight, with the objectivity of a third party. It is a role that he relishes in service of businesses and boards. Chris holds the ICD.D designation in governance and has been a director of both public and private companies.

As a mindfulness practitioner, Michelle is passionate in helping people explore and nurture their authenticity. With her recent completion in Inner Engineering, Michelle believes that by understanding and aligning with our inner purpose, vision and values, we can create the foundation we require to be mindful and sustainable in our everyday lives.

Keith Taylor is the Executive Director of The DUCA Impact Lab, an innovation hub founded by DUCA Financial Services Credit Union. The Impact Lab is a hub for leveraging emerging technology and community-based insight to build banking models that benefit all members of the community. The Lab’s work brings together innovators, experts and stakeholders from a variety of sectors to identify, test and champion catalytic solutions focused on addressing inequities in today’s financial system.
Prior to DUCA, Keith worked as strategic advisor to a group of companies accounting for over $500 million of community investment annually. He started his career in international development working on business planning and finance for community owned businesses in the Caribbean. Since then, Keith has worked in Canada and internationally on a variety on initiatives focused on philanthropy, social enterprise, social finance and strategy. He holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University and a BA from Saint Francis Xavier University
